So I'm 2 Weeks Behind in Blogging ...

I realize that I last posted 2 full weeks ago, but life has sort of gotten in the way. I'm back now though, and that's good.

My husband and I had ourselves a little staycation / getaway over the weekend. We went to the city, stayed at a hotel we never would have booked in real life and ate crazy good meals (thank you, restaurant week!) and wandered through one of our city's funkier neighborhoods. There was wine, chocolate, good steak, prociutto, brown suede booties, jeans on sale and a few Midori sours to make it all go down in a lovely shade of green. We had a fabulous time and i.cannot.wait. to go again!

So anyway, this post was going to be about a resolution I made for this year (I have several, but they're not all going into affect at the same time. Easier that way!) My resolutions was to stop buying retail. For myself, anyway. Gifts for other people don't count. My reasons for this were two fold - first, to curb some of my spending from last year. My shopping budget is smaller for 2012 because we're saving up for vacation in the fall, so I'm watching my pennies. But telling myself that I can't shop AT ALL would be checking account suicide, as I lack the willpower and would go on a massive spree just to feed the craving. *sigh* Life is hard sometimes.

Secondly, I want to do more thrifting. I really love thrift stores anyway, and I like the odd things that can be found that make my wardrobe slightly more one of a kind then someone else's.

And finally, I hope I'll be more judicious in my clothing choices. Rather than grabbing one of 50 trendy tops from the full-price rack, I'll have to really think about the pieces I'm coming across.

I've given myself a few rules, which are meant mostly to keep me in line, rather then restrict me completely. I can shop in a retail store but only for items on sale or clearance. I may shop at discount stores like Ross and TJMaxx, since those pieces are new but not MSRP'ed. And thrifting is obviously allowed. I can spend gift cards (b'days/Christmas) on full price items (but I rarely do) since it's not really my money!

Now, before leaving for the city last weekend, the hubs and I went shopping. He actually picked out two full-price items for me (which is against the rules) but I allowed it because he's not aware of my resolution (as of yet) and because they were kind of like a gift - not things I would have chosen for myself or would have bought if I'd been shopping alone. The things I chose for myself all came off the sale rack ($7 jeans? yes please!). Once we got to the city, we headed to Fells Point and hit up a few shops. I came away with a top and shoes from the local Goodwill. All in all, successful. New things for cheap, new to me things for cheap. Hooray!

Now, to wear all those pretty, pretty things ...
